Intern, Marketing & Communications


ReThink Media seeks a Marketing and Communications Intern to support their Communications Team. This position helps the organization tell its story across its issue areas—to its members, partners, and funders.

ReThink Media’s paid internship program provides talented undergraduate and graduate students in traditional and digital media and communications, journalism, design and data visualization, media and public opinion research and analysis, website management and tech support, and non-profit management, with hands-on experience in the field of issue advocacy communications. Interns are trained and mentored by experienced professionals and gain real-work experience in applying the latest media tools and strategies in addressing some of the most prominent issue campaigns of our day. Interns also get the chance to work and develop contacts with many of the leading nonprofits and experts in the country.

Successful candidates will be exposed to a wide range of skills and responsibilities in media relations, research, design, management, and communications skills and responsibilities.


The Marketing and Communications Intern reports to the Director of Communications and will have a hands-on role in contributing to the success of the organization’s external communications. This includes promoting the organization’s resources, trainings, and findings; making sure our content looks professional and uniform; and ensuring that our content is successfully delivered to key audiences.

We are looking for someone with a passion for writing, marketing, design, advocacy, and social justice.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Drafting messages to target audiences to share new analysis, promote events and trainings, and provide continuing education to our members, partners, and funders;
  • Partnering with program teams to determine key audiences for outreach;
  • Designing training materials in InDesign and PowerPoint;
  • Consolidating, updating, and segmented email marketing lists; 
  • Updating organizational resources to ensure consistent branding and format; and
  • Evaluating the success of our marketing efforts using data analytics.


  • Experience with InDesign 
  • Strong, persuasive writing skills

Desirable but not required:

  • MailChimp experience
  • List segmentation experience
  • Email marketing experience
  • Social media experience
  • Graphic design/layout experience

Hours and Compensation

ReThink Media interns are expected to work at least 20 hours per week (although less time may be considered in special circumstances). The current rate of compensation for Interns is $16.50-18.50 per hour.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this position is completely virtual until our offices reopen (TBD).
