Americans Name Government as Most Important Problem for Fourth Consecutive Month (Gallup)

31% are satisfied with the way things are going in the country

Gallup's monthly index of "most important problem," an open-ended question aiming to capture broad categories of issues that are top-of-mind for Americans, finds that 18% name government. This is the fourth consecutive month in which government has been the most common answer, but the runners-up aren't near as close as in previous months: economy was named by 11% (the fewest in at least a year) and unemployment by 10%.

Satisfaction with "the way things are going in the US" is holding steady at about 1/3 of the country: "thirty-one percent [31%] of Americans are satisfied with the way things are going in the country. Satisfaction has been stable over the last three months; however, it remains higher than most readings since 2007."
