Chris Melody is the Associate Director for Voting Rights at ReThink Media. Through the Voting Rights collaborative, she expands ReThink’s work in strengthening our democracy —developing and supporting effective communications and capacity-building strategies for our partner organizations, including shared messaging, training, and media tools.
Before joining the ReThink team, Chris worked at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law where she led comprehensive strategy to expand and protect voting rights as well as to combat efforts curbing access to the ballot box. Chris is no stranger to the democracy space, having previously worked at Common Cause on a congressional public financing campaign. A seasoned strategist, she has served in numerous roles for different political and issue-based campaigns. Underpinnings of Chris' work have been infrastructure-building, fostering collaboration and developing tools for partners.
Born in Venezuela and raised in Texas, Chris is a proud “wise Latina,” to use the words of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Protecting voting rights is her ongoing passion, but you can also find her photographing the latest DC street art, plotting her next travel adventure, or whipping up a delicious treat in the kitchen (her arepas and empanadas are legendary). She received her BA in English Literature and Anthropology at Austin College in Texas.
