Media Associate, Democracy
Manuela Ekowo is a Media Associate with the Democracy Collaborative where she helps keep organizations smart on media messaging and the latest developments in media discourse surrounding money in politics, fair courts, and voting rights. She also helps build these organizations’ media outreach and rapid response capacities, all while developing strong relationships with leading journalists and groups in this space. Manuela is excited to join the fight to transform our democratic institutions so they work for everyone.
Before coming to ReThink Media and getting into strategic communications, Manuela spent more than four years advancing public policies that would improve college access and completion for low-income, adult, and students of color. At New America, she amplified opportunities and challenges with using education technologies in higher education. And, at the Center for Law and Social Policy, she helped devise policies that would lift individuals and families out of poverty and into family-supporting employment.
A Miami native, Manuela holds a bachelor’s degree in government and legal studies from Bowdoin College. In her free time, she enjoys reading nonfiction, raising awareness about global water quality and conservation challenges, and attending festivals in and around Washington, D.C.
