Samantha Garzillo
Intern, Democracy
Sam Garzillo joins the ReThink team to work with member organizations and help lead and develop a new story-centered project that will help put a face on the problems and solutions confronting our democracy. Her work aims to impact the story-telling landscape from op-eds to broadcast interviews to social and digital strategies and content.
During her undergraduate career, she was deeply involved with the Roosevelt Institute, notably as President and PR Director of American University’s chapter and as Regional Coordinator of the Mid-Atlantic. She was also an intern with Local Progress at the Center for Popular Democracy and with U.S. PIRG, as well as a writer for an intersectional feminist publication. She also worked with the D.C. Fair Elections Coalition to help pass public finance legislation.
Sam is a recent graduate of American University with a BA in Law and Society. Beyond the democracy world, she is interested in the school-to-prison pipeline, reproductive care, criminal justice reform, elevating young people in politics, and biracial identity and representation, among a litany of other things. She has played the violin for seventeen years, loves to cook, and is on the active hunt for new podcasts. You’ll usually find her at her desk listening to Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring and Brahms #1 on loop.
