Our Solutions

OUR GOAL is to provide state-of-the-art media and communications tools, strategic messaging and media guidance, communications training, consulting, and support to think tanks, advocacy organizations, and grassroots groups addressing peace and security, human and civil rights issues, and working to strengthen our democracy.

Whether your organization has a fully staffed communications department or no communications staff at all, our mission is to make it easier for you to reach your targeted audiences and achieve your communications objectives.

Media Tools & Technologies ReThink provides access to technologies considered standard operating tools by PR firms, but which have proven cost-prohibitive for many nonprofits. This includes a professional media database and press distribution services, a comprehensive news and social media clipping and analytics service, access to ReThink’s curated and politically targeted press lists, and expert assistance in building and maintaining press lists for your organization’s unique needs.

Media and Communications Training ReThink provides specially tailored, hands-on communications training, developed to overcome the media challenges facing the groups that we work with. Our core curriculum of 25 expert trainings including strategic communications, building relations with reporters, connecting with non-expert audiences, making effective broadcast appearances, building your media profile, and positioning yourself as a go-to expert. The majority of participants in our media training “boot camp” ranked it as “the single most useful” training they had ever participated in. Learn more about our training curriculum.

Consulting & Strategic Support We work behind the scenes with your staff on everything from developing a strong overall media strategy to perfecting a single press release. We’ve helped groups roll out major reports and prepare for prime-time broadcast appearances. We can help you build relationships with leading journalists and editors.

Editorials & Op-Eds We work to keep our members’ perspectives front and center in the national debate, and appearing regularly on opinion and editorial pages. We can assist at any stage, from helping craft effective editorial packets, to ghostwriting an op-ed, to choosing the best outlets and pitching your piece.

Social Media We can help you avoid the hype and develop strategic approaches to social media that deliver real-world results. From rapid response monitoring to building relationships with journalists, to shifting the media narrative of a story as it unfolds in real-time, we can help you develop effective, practical ways to integrate social media into your work.

Public Opinion & Messaging ReThink media tracks public opinion polls daily and provides our member groups with both regular updates and comprehensive trend analysis. We also maintain a unique real-time media monitoring portal on each of our issue areas, enabling both in-depth, multi-year analysis of media coverage and real-time assessments and strategic advice to position your organization for success.

Profiles of Key Journalists Members receive our annual guide to the top journalists covering the issues we work on. We share tips on each journalist’s interests and background, offer exclusive intel and recommend pitching strategies. These profiles are also available online to members, with links to their blogs, Twitter feeds, LinkedIn profiles, and more.

Collaborative Campaigns ReThink understands and respects each group’s unique brand and the balance between collaborative and internal priorities. We work with organizations to advance their own self-interest, recognizing how effective media work can benefit their own fundraising, membership recruiting, and visibility. But we equally work to help groups play their own respective roles and capitalize on each other’s unique assets to make the performance of the overall team as effective as possible.

One last thing... We're a nonprofit ourselves and we work on a limited set of issues. Our bottom line is not about billable hours; it's about building the capacity of communities that we serve to garner better media coverage, target their messages more effectively, and achieve their policy objectives.
