Welcome to ReThink Media's Digital Media Toolkit: The Platforms You Need to Win

Are you using every tool in your digital strategy toolkit? Are you ready to think about expanding beyond the trusted Facebook and Twitter for your advocacy efforts? Are you wondering how to use tools like Snapchat for your policy initiatives, or why everyone and their mother seems to be posting on Medium these days?

One of the initiatives we are thrilled to bring you this year is a new lineup of digital strategy trainings to make sure ReThink Media’s members and community are using every tool in their digital arsenal in thoughtful, strategic ways. We’ll also let you know the platforms you might want to skip, too.

Through this blog (as well as in-person and webinar trainings) we will walk through digital tools and platforms, explore how to use each for advocacy purposes, provide examples of how similar nonprofits are using each tool, and offer recommendations about situations that provide great opportunities to incorporate the tool (or when you should move on to the next one).

We will cover everything from the best practices when live-tweeting an event to how to use Twitter to newsjack an event—and also how to blow it if you aren’t careful. We’ll delve into exciting examples of using small digital ad buys to win real policy outcomes. We’ll compare the latest platforms for live-streaming video (like Periscope, Meerkat, and Facebook Live), as well as platforms for short-form smartphone-ready video content (like Vine and Instagram).

In short, we’ve got you covered.

And as we go, we will also hold regular Lunch and Learns at our DC office and via webinar to seek your input, feedback, and brainstorm how our organizations can effectively use these tools.

Needless to say, we are excited to explore our digital toolkit and make sure that our online advocacy campaigns are firing on all cylinders.

Which platforms do you want to make sure we cover in this training series? Feel free to email Dorry@rethinkmedia.org with any ideas, feedback, or examples to share.
